Temperature below freezing should be avoided. One can plant avocados tree between March to June because avocado trees will not absorb water effectively while they are young. If you go for planting in summer, then there will be possibility of sun damage.
Once formed, they can withstand temperature of -2°C to 0°C with little damage.
While pruning the olive trees, it is preferred to make a few well-placed cuts rather than making many small cuts. A lopper or pruning saw is used for this process. The open centre or vase pruning is a very common practice for olive farming to facilitate sunlight penetration into the central parts of the tree. Branches that are taller are also removed to keep the height of the tree small. Pruning is done once in three years during the period from the end of winter and flowering period. These trees can also be pruned in spring or early summer after the appearance of flower buds. Trimming of the tree has to be always done after the winter rains are over.
Fertilizers should be applied at the base of the plant at a certain distance from the trunk. The farm should be immediately watered after fertilizer application. Foliar spraying of fertilizers is only done during emergencies or deficiencies. No fertilizer should be applied to the trees during winter (after august till march) because the trees does not grow during this period. Most of the fertilizer is applied during the growing season.
These vegetables will be ready for harvesting in 3 months period. Hand picking or sickle is used to harvest the vegetable. Hand picking may damage the vine, so better use a small cutter to harvest the Tindora Vegetable.
The Tindora plants starts fruiting in about 3 months after planting. Once fruiting is completed, the vine should be pruned leaving about 70 cm long vines. For each plant, about 5 kg of FYM should be applied after pruning.
Onion crops need adequate water to produce high crop yields. Over watering causes diseased and rot in the ground. Depending on the amount of rainfall received in, 12 week growing season, we recommend irrigating with 1 inch of water once or twice a week.
About 7-8 kg of onion seed is sufficient for a hectare of land. Application of 20-25 tonnes of FYM/ha on the soil is considered adequate. FYM must be applied one month before transplanting or sowing and mixed well in the soil.
Onions grow well in well drained soil with pH levels between 6.0 and 7.0. Soils organic matter can be increased by adding well rotted manure or compost in the spring or fall season. Onions grow well in slightly acidic, fertile and well drained soils. Heavy soils can be improved by incorporating organic matter like compost in to the soil. Onions need higher fertility levels.
The thinning of fruits is the process of removing some young fruits from bunches so as to improve the fruit quality and ensure proper nutrition and development of the remaining fruits on the bunch. This is generally done in three ways such as cutting the strands or reducing their length, removing some strands from the centre of the bunch and reducing some fruits from each strand.
In this method True Potato Seeds (TPS) is sown in nursery for raising seedling which are later transplanted in field. Disease free potato seed can be produced and prevention of disease to new areas can be checked. The cost of cultivation can be reduced as compared to traditional method of planting by tubers. 100-150 g seeds/ha in nursery is sufficient.
